Wakari School Sports Day!

We had such fun day last Tuesday at our school wide sports day!  There were ten stations for the children to try, so we were busy jumping, running and throwing all afternoon!

Here are some photos from the Egg and Spoon Race (with REAL eggs!!) and also from the Three Legged Race.  The students showed great determination!

Room 9 share their work at School Assembly!

On Friday the Room 9 artists shared their amazing artworks at our whole school assembly.  We are learning about sustainability and how we can REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE things to help look after our world.  We wanted to REUSE scrap paper and magazines and turn them into fabulous art works inspired by the artist Kandinsky, who we had learned about earlier in the year.

We had six representatives from Room 9 introduce our artworks and talk about the steps we took to create such FANTASTIC pieces of art.

Click on this link below to see how well Room 9 did sharing their artworks with the school:

New Zealand ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

Room 9 (and all the other classes at Wakari School) participated in a New Zealand wide earthquake drill on Thursday.  We discussed the right steps to take in an earthquake, and the reasons why.  When we had our earthquake drill the sensible students in Room 9 were able to calmly drop, cover and hold on.  Well done!!!  We have to make sure that we keep practising the right steps to take so that if we ever have an earthquake in Dunedin we can be safe.

Welcome to Term 4!

We have had a great first week back at school!  It has been so great to see each other again after the two week break and hear about what everyone has been up to.

We were so lucky to have the Playhouse Theatre NZ group come on Wednesday afternoon and perform their show to us "Jack Flash and the Jumping Beanstalk".  This show had an environmental theme and focused on "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle".  This was great for us because our Topic this term is Sustainability.  The show was sooooo funny!!!

The actors sang a catchy song about the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
